Nice day for a stroll

Took a walk for about 3 hours. It would have been nicer if it wasn't for the wind. As you can see in the first photo, the wind kept blowing my hair into my face.

Chinese New Year

We're in the year of the Cock. Doesn't really do anything special for me since 1) I'm not Chinese, and 2) I'm the Snake. Still didn't stop me from celebrating by going out for Chinese food.

Rented Papa: Hemingway in Cuba, which was an interesting bio-pic about a journalist named Ed Myers who goes to Cuba to meet his idol, Ernest Hemingway. Apparently this was the first American film to be shot in Cuba in over 30+ years, so that's definitely something interesting to note.

I also read and finished The Pianist, which is the memoirs of Wladyslaw Spzilman who was the last composer to be heard over Warsaw radio before it was bombed by the Germans. This is an interesting story. I read it when I was 14 years old, but recently found it in my library and decided to read it again. It's truly an inspiring tale about the will to live, and the unexpected people and things that give us our will to live.

New to Me

Shopping today in Florida.
When cold weather comes, I always feel like I never own enough jeans. I found this Sweetheart distressed pair of skinnies from Old Navy.

I don't own a lot of bright colored clothes, so I was excited to find this layered Columbia top in this beautiful salmon color.

This is just a zip up hoodie from Victoria's Secret, but I love the girly touch of wings and bedazzles.

I had the privilege of finding this lightweight Lacoste scarf as well today. The embroider is just perfect.

Lunch date

Went out and did lunch with a friend today and finally got to rip the tags off this jacket. I love the collar can be worn down or as a funnel neck. I had so much fun switching it up. And the jacket is fleece with thumbholes to keep me warm all day.

This is my Ramen noodles bag, which is just a fun little bag to take out. I'm a hoarder when it comes to things in my bag, but every now and then it's nice to play the minimalist and go for something smaller.

It's raining! It's pouring!

Spent the weekend getting rained on. I have naturally wavy, frizzy hair, as you may have been able to tell from some of my pictures. I usually try to blow it out (or straighten it if I have the time), but it sucks when the forecast calls for straight downpours and you just have to use a lot of hairspray, find a good umbrella, and hope for the best.

Delivery for me

Got pink roses from my dad today just because.

Got this fun product in the mail today from Wish. You wear it like a ring around your fingers and it holds your nail polish, so you don't have to place it on a steady surface. It turned out pretty useful (It holds all sorts of nail polish bottles.) and even came with a pair of toe separators.

Book Store

Managed to beat the rain and go run some errands in Florida. I like the color combo of navy blue and army green together.

The clouds were starting to get dark over the bridge into Pensacola.

Stopped by Barnes & Noble today. Book stores are one of my happy places (I have others, but this is the book section :-P). I haven't been to a book store in awhile so I was really happy to go in today.

So, I got a copy of Shel Silverstein's A Light in the Attic. It was an exchange gift from Christmas where I had received a repeat book of his. The relevance (not that there has to be one for Silverstein), is that in 1996 I received a copy of The Giving Tree inscribed with Christmas 1996. Then 10 years later, I received a copy of Where the Sidewalk Ends inscribed with Christmas 2006. So, it being another decade later, I wanted another Shel Silverstein book... It's tradition.

I also bought myself a copy of Mental Floss magazine. Not only is this magazine special because Mental Floss is just the perfect nerdy site, but it's also their Farewell Issue, which is a little bit sad.

On the wings of an owl

Embracing my inner flower child today, mostly because I love this hat.

Got the new Marie Claire magazine in the mail today. I love how bright the color is. It makes me want to go buy all of that make up collection. Ah...

Got this necklace in the mail from a site called Wish in order to pay homage to my sweet home Alabama life.

The circus came to town

So, we were supposed to go to a festival this weekend, but really just ended up at the circus. Oh well. "The best laid plans of mice and men..."

Uncaged

I haven't been posting lately, but it has been a very uneventful week.
On another note, I think Simply Southern shirts, skinny jeans (like these from TJ Maxx) and these boots from Old Navy have almost become a new uniform of sorts for me. It's a comfy look, yet you never look like you just rolled out of bed and put it on.

I have been reading Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov this week so it hasn't been a total drag. I'm normally not one to voice my opinion on controversial subjects, but I do support this novel and am very proud of it. I've watched both of the movie versions and a documentary on it. I definitely recommend giving this novel a chance because it is a well written love story and not just a disgusting tale of pedophilia.
